1967 c10 project

I went out and got me a 1967 lwb c10. 283 with a 3 on the tree trans. 55k original miles. she runs like a dream. only surface rust. the black you see is spray paint and not primer. not a spot of bondo on this body. its going to be a rolling project. little things at a time shes going to be my daily driver, so first up is a tranny swap. Im going to put a good sounding exhaust system on her. New oak wood is going in the bed. The bench will be reupholstered. Im thinking about solid black leather and a chevy bowtie stitched into the bench. thinking about maybe lowering her a few inches. new rims, then paint. The two colors im deciding between is a dark blue or a midnight purple. any suggestions would be cool. its still a big idea in my head, but one thing is for sure: i own it!

Re: 1967 c10 project

congrats - lots of potential - consider upgrading to power front brakes - no use in putting in new wood in bed if going to paint it, do after paint job. just use a sheet of plywood for now. hopefully no rust under that rattle can paint job. if going to be a while before paint take the time to sand down and put a primer sealer or epoxy on it preserve body. also, save current rims/tires until after getting painted so no over spray gets on new wheels/tires. check over all of the wiring, condition of brakes/drums - etc

Sounds like some good advice...

Re: 1967 c10 project

theres no rust under the rattle can job. the clear coat was peeling so they did a half job on it. no bondo on it either, I checked with a magnet. thanks for the advice, I was planning on hitting her with some sealing primer once the weather clears up. just my luck I buy a new toy and a front moves through!

Great looking truck! Your lucky to find one so solid. Should make for a fun project. I think the original Blue would look great on it. Have fun with it.

Re: 1967 c10 project

Just a quick update on my truck. We started working on it pretty intensively the past 2 weeks. so far what has been done: New tires, 3 on the tree out and nv3500 in, clutch replacement, new flywheel, headers hung, hei distributor, ran new wires under hood, bucket seats purchased and0 currently in upholstery shop. i have a thrush header back system ordered, should be here Friday. I will post pics later. still have to finish the hydraulics for the clutch and then the trans swap will be complete!

Re: 1967 c10 project

It appears to be a solid ol truck and you are moving right along. I always liked those 283's. Sweet little engines.
May I suggest pulling the drums off and having a real good look at the brakes while the truck is parked? Check steering and suspension parts, etc.

Thumbs up Re: 1967 c10 project

Edlebrock black breather and valve covers would look good if your not into polishing chrome. These long beds are starting to grow on me. And you can use a truck as a truck then.

Wink Re: 1967 c10 project

Nice looking starter for you. X2 on above. Checkout all the brakes and such mechanicaly on the truck first. Get everything in good working order.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
