How do I hook up my trailer brake setup on my 94 c3500?

I have a Tekonsha Prodigy trailer brake system that was installed on my dually when I bought it. When I bought my trailer, I didn't ask many questions about the trailer brake setup...I just knew I needed brakes on the trailer. Here's what I got:
1994 C3500 with a 6 pin connector.(I'm using a 6pin-to-4pin adapter for the trailer lights).
My trailer has the normal 4 pin connector with an extra unused white wire hanging from the connector. Then there's the one big wire(it's actually two separate wires wrapped in the same insulation...kinda like house wire). I've looked at the directions from Tekonsha and I've looked all over ebay, but I don't know what I need to make the brakes functional. Can somebody please point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Ok, I found the wiring scheme for the controller. It shows a blue wire as the trailer connector. I think I found that wire, and it seems to be connected to my 6 pin connector. Would that mean that I should connect the trailer brake wire(big one on the trailer) to the white wire(unused) on the 4 pin connector? Then plug that into my 6pin-to-4pin adapter?

No the white wire is usually used as a ground wire, the 4 pin does not support trailer brakes so there is no connection from the blue wire in the 6 pin to the 4 pin in the adapter. IMO you would be better off using a matching connector on the trailer also if there is a battery on the trailer you'll want it to charge while driving.

Re: How do I hook up my trailer brake setup on my 94 c3500?

If you only have a 4 pin connector on you're trailer you need a 7 pin to use the brakes , you should also have a breakaway switch and a battery to apply brakes in case of a breakaway

Are you sure it is a 6 pin plug on you're truck? should be a 7 pin .
here is a wiring diagram.

Yes, I have a round 6-pin plug on the bumper. About the battery - does the 12v wire get run to the positive side of the battery like an alternator wire would?

yes 12v goes to positive on battery .

Are you working on the truck wiring or the trailer? in you're first post you said the controller was installed when you got the truck

Here is a link to trailer wiring and plugs , 6 way is about 1/3 down page . Hope this helps

Re: How do I hook up my trailer brake setup on my 94 c3500?

The trailer needs to be rewired since it only has a 4pin connector. The truck is already wired up with the 6pin plug, I just didn't know what to do with it. Yes that does help. Thanks.
