Well, I would like to say it was cut and had an 1/8" of metal to each side, but we figured that would be more damage than good.

He used some type of fiberglass with metal reinforcement. I have no idea of the actual name of it is. Even upon very close inspection there is not a hint of it underneath the hood.

That has to be one of the best looking chopped truck that I have seen. Most people who chop them never bag them so they dont look low enough. Very nice choice of wheels.

Re: No Regrets - The Rebuild post

Just got the sand blasting on the frame complete. I have a few modifications to make (mainly moving the shocks outbaord the notch so I can fit the exhaust though between the notch and the axle) and I'll be ready for paint.

It wasn't intended that way, I'm sure he was just day dreaming

I'll try the picture of the bare frame one more time...

Re: No Regrets - The Rebuild post

And here is how I solved the problem of the transmission cross member bolts hanging below the frame. First I welded tabs to the original crossmember and used two 3/8 bolts though the side of the frame. Then, I countersunk the original holes and used the proper bolts so they were flush with the bottom of the frame. Then I bolted in the other two pieces for rigidity. I still have to sand blast one of the upper pieces, but it is strong as hell and doesn't drag the bolts on the ground now.

Re: No Regrets - The Rebuild post

I just can't leave well enough alone I guess. I started inspecting the rear crossmember of the frame, an noticed a few pin holes in it. Soooo... it's gone now, and I nice one is back in it's place made from 3/16 wall tubing. It will work better anyway since the exhaust will be coming straight out the back. I also got some other stuff done, which I will discuss in the next post.

Re: No Regrets - The Rebuild post

The other order of business today was the crossmember in front of the axle, which I will admit was an abomination of nobodies fault but my own. I overlooked it rushed it, and just plain kinda messed it up the first time around, and it was time to make it right. Before I even started to remove it, I welded temporary crossmembers top and bottom on each side of it. Then I drilled out a bunch of rivets, And when I packed it up for the night was just starting to mock up the new pieces. When complete it will be a complete driveshaft hoop, and lots stronger than the factory original.

That hoop looks so much better. I saw the pics and thought "holy crap" what happened? Everything has been looking awesome until I saw that. Then I realized that was the old one, not the new and improved version.

It looks like your welding skills have really improved since your first build...

That was another thing about the notch that is was so ugly, and the welds were done from a weird angle with my arc welder. And I did it in a big hurry. I now have a big MIG welder as well and it makes it much easier, as much as I hate to admit it. Plus the frame is completely clean and there is nothing I have to work around.

all the other welds on it were not nearly as bad as the ones on that
