Best tire size in your opinion? (for 87 half ton longbed)

Looking to get some new tires soon. I have the oem 15" rally wheels. The factory tire size for my 87 R10 truck looks a bit on the small size to me when I see them on a truck. But, that is what I'll use if it yields the most benefit. So I'd like to hear you guys' thoughts on it. Its not a 4x4, just a 2wd street truck. Should I stick with the factory tire size, or should I go slightly taller and slightly wider?

You can run a 235/75r15 that is 28" tall, but the truck would benefit from 2" drop spindles Front and a drop shaclkle in the rear to fill the wheelwells better.

My 77 heavy half was running 30s on all 4 corners (2wd lwb) when I got it. I stepped downwards to the above mentioned 235/75 series.

First picture is the bigger tires. They were old and one thing I don't skimp on is tires, so I never drove them around.

Second picture is the 235/75/r15.

Keep in mind, you should run a size difference calculator to learn how far off your speedo will be (and by extension odometer.)

Even with the allowance for the reading being off, the bigger the tire, the lower the overall fuel economy due to heavier rotating mass.

255/70 tires...Same height as the 235, but bigger footprint.

I agree on the 255/70/15, to me it’s the perfect look on a stock truck. Here they are on a truck I had a few years ago
