1959 Viking 40

Bought a 1959 Viking 40 off a rancher in the midwest.

My plans are to put a straight axle under it and make it 4x4 dually. I have a rare dana 70 4.56 front axle I have been hoarding for such a project.

Actually I am pretty enthusiast as the drop axle is leaf sprung.

Does anyone have any knowledge of a NAPCO 4x4 Viking or Spartan truck?

Or any pictures?

I will post some pictures when a buddy drops it off Friday.

I would be glad to see it! Sounds interesting. Especially with the Dana 70 you plan to put in it! I'm working on a 57 6400 that I have swapped 4x4 running gear as well. Dana 60 up front and 70HD in the rear.
Very cool stuff indeed.

Re: 1959 Viking 40

That should be a simple swap if you also run a matching rear axle.

Back in the 70's and 80's there were several TF 1/2 and 3/4 tons running around this area that had been converted to 4x4 with stock springs and later axles and trans and transfer.
I was on my way to buy a 56 1/2 ton with 3/4 ton axles under it with a blown up engine and met it being hauled down the road on a trailer by the guy who beat me there. Had a wad of 100.00 bills in my wallet too. Nice truck but the guy who owned it an blew the engine didn't have money to fix it and needed money to buy something he could drive. Had mid 70s engine, trans, transfer and axles under it. That was in the early 80's and guys didn't do frame swaps then.

48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six.
71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant.
77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

Yes I got lucky. Both 4.56 ratios. I think swapping the axles is easier than swapping the frame. That's to bad that guy beat you to that 56.
