sway bar/lower control arms

I have a '63 c10 that doesn't have a sway bar. I bought a sway bar kit from CPP. There isn't any place on the lower control arms for the sway bar links to bolt up. Is there a bracket for the sway bar links to mount to or is there a hole in the control arms? Pictures would really be appreciated!

Re: sway bar/lower control arms

Most of the front sway bar/OE lower control arm combinations that I've seen look similar to the photos below (bushing bracket bolted to the lower control arm). I have seen some where people bolted or welded an "L" bracket to the leading edge of the lower control arm for the bushing mount.

You could bolt up the swaybar to the frame, centred, line up your brackets and mark where the holes need to be drilled for the end links.

The sway bar I have is different than the one in the pictures above. My has the link bolt with bushings. Mine is like a factory type. I am trying to figure out where the link bolt is in the factory position. I guess my truck being a '63...they must not have come with a sway bar on any of them.

Looks like you will need an L-bracket based on this picture:

Re: sway bar/lower control arms

Sorry to interject Oliver63 mine is also a 63 with no holes..do you guys happen to know how far through the bushings on the control arm the ends of the sway bar go? That would be towards the back of the truck...I figure if I can set the depth then I can measure for the holes...it's a 73-87 sway bar like the first picture with early classic lower brackets and poly bushings. Thank you in advance.

Re: sway bar/lower control arms

Okay I double checked. I recall the bar sticking through about 2" but that was with some weight off the wheels so I could get the brackets bolted on. Fully compressed the bar sticks through 3/4"-1" on each side.

I installed the cpp front bar on my 63. I mounted like explained above. centered it on the frame and marked holes as if I were mounting the 70's style right to the a-arm. I marked and drilled the holes and I used the rubber link bushings top and bottom with a new shorter grade 8 bolt from Ace Hardware. None of the spacers were needed.

I installed both front and rear sway bars and what a difference. I have about 3000+- miles on them and no issues. Kind of trip shifting the 3 speed in the S turns.

Re: sway bar/lower control arms

Thank you for your reply...i got it on and it turned out really good. Now...if I can ever get my brakes bleed to where I have a good pedal...i will try out the sway bar.

If you were switching to the CPP power disc brake kit I can tell you that your pedal will never be as tall as manual breaks. As long as you were confident that you removed all the air from the lines it will stop on a dime

Re: sway bar/lower control arms

I went with four wheel disc brakes with a non-power master cylinder. I haven't drove it yet...but the low pedal is not very exciting.

Re: sway bar/lower control arms

I had a low peddle on my CCP brake upgrade until I bought it to Meineke and had them bleed the brakes. Now I have a normal peddle and great brakes.

Sorry I just realized this is an old thread.
