You pay, I'll play.

Not just work. I worked over in the next county (North & East 1hr). Came home, got the trailer, ran down to Virginia (South & West a couple hrs), grabbed an early supper (sub), loaded it and the Suburban with 67-72 truck parts till dark, slept on the front seat (sort of), got up early, headed out, ate VA ham & eggs at a diner, home/shower/pack lunch, and back to the job. Got home, starter for '72 hadn't come, so mowed grass because tomorrow is a big day. Need to get kitchen sink working on the job so I can finally start an insurance job that has been in the works since 3/1. That's just Friday (measure/order trusses/wait), then finish job for a buddy Saturday, camp out in Harpers Ferry, antique truck show Sunday near by, then down for the rest of the parts, sleep at my sister's nearby, and I hope to hang out for some kayaking on the river before starting a job back home while trusses are being made.

I know I'm not the only one who gets busy, but I got real used to being slow for a long time. Actually I'm loving being so busy

Back to first dates. I had been on two dates with a new girlfriend. Was real careful with the four word thing. But on 4/17 I was getting materials when I ran into a guy who brought up Spring Carlisle swap meet, which I was thinking was the following week. When we parted he said "See you this weekend" and I thought "He'll figure it out". I got home late after seeing this gal, went to bed, and when I got up first thing I did was check the date of Carlisle... STARTS 4/18!! I sent my customer a "we need to talk" text. She was fine with me going. I start packing as fast as I could and get up there around 7pm. I call my girlfriend and tell her, "I'm up at Carlisle", and that didn't go over well at all. Only 3 dates and it was over!

Oh well, she was pretty but she was pretty other things, too

. At least I got a load of parts out of it. It all came about suddenly and I pounced. My sister lived just down the road, but timing was bad for a visit. How bad? It was the day before a colonoscopy so she was bingin' on the poop juice. How's that for putting it out straight? I meant my words, not...

I actually enjoyed my gypsy experience. I had put a couple beers on ice in my cooler for the evening at my sister's, just in case. I was backed down around back of this feller's buildings against the woods to load. His house sits out front up on a hill, with where I sat fully private for both of us. Nice quiet evening, great temperature, no bugs, window down, leaned against driver door in lounge position w/pillows, listening to the wildlife's evening sounds, and a couple chilly Coronas before zonking out.

Rolled up into town for coffee, breakfast, conversation with a couple old boys giving the gal a hard time.. Just a regular good old time

Yeah, that gal had no claim on me to be getting so upset...yet. I'm no Don Juan, but I admit this was more about seeing what could happen than expecting much from it long and lasting. After listening to her go on as if I did what I did to hurt her feelings I simply said, "I think we're done" and hung up.

My marriage came down to being about me worrying about making her happy with the same not being reciprocated. It became undeniably evident when my dad passed slowly from diabetes with hardly a comfort from her. This notion finally hit me... "What about me?" and I guess those three words were the beginning of the end of a 25 year relationship. Never again. I give all I have of myself and I expect the same or I'll stay single. Hmmm... how to inject some humor here? Hasta la vista baby?
