the pics! Honestly tell me what you think. I know I have my work cut out for me. Question is, can a novice like me do it?

I would scrap it and find a better body, but I live in the south too. I know good bodies are harder to find up north.

Being a little older I can say with conviction "I've been there and done that".. The question I feel you should be asking yourself is " Is it worth the time, effort and money to bring her back." I notice its a 4x4. Is it a rare CST or Cheyenne short box 4x4 with air that the chances of you finding another are slim to none?. I have found that being a little patient ( again an age thing) will in most cases, pay off..

Yeah, I was afraid this may be a little too much work for her/me. The frame I'm not worried about, it's the fron bottom corners....even the cab in the back seems ok.....I guess I have to make some decisions.....

Put the clip back on.I couldn`t see any of that before.I have two sitting.I think the one is good in that area.It just has the torsion box/in front of the rear wheels problems.

it's kind of tough because the bottom fenders attach at that point. I suppose I could fab up some brackets or so....

Re: OK, got my suds, here's.....

It can be done, but you probably have bad rocker boxes as well as floor pans and front supports (and on and on...). Here's some pics of mine. The bracket in my hand is what the fender bolts to, it isn't reproduced...

If you want a restored vehicle, buy another cab, if you like doing work (LOTS of work) then get a mig and get to work!

I've had people tell me I'm crazy for fixing mine, but if you look for a tub you'll find out they aren't as easy to come by as some people say. And the one's I looked at were almost as bad as mine...

Good luck, Rg

Re: OK, got my suds, here's.....

It just takes a time and some effort. My floors and rockers were as bad as yours. I have one side fitted and almost ready to weld. I would post some pic but not smart enough to do it. Just like ragged jim showed. The one piece of advice that I would give you would be pic the best side and do it first. I did that just because that was the way it was parked in the driveway. Alot of this stuff tied together for structural support and you get a good ideal of how it all tied in. For me especially at the back of the rocker and floor pan/door jamb . Good luck

As long as the window frame is good I would go for it.

Re: OK, got my suds, here's.....

I don't know, I've always found that it's a fine line between a little rust and a lot of rust. I've gone to repair areas that looked like they had a little rust and by the time I was done, it was a lot. Meaning, it wouldn't have made any difference if that area were totally rotten or a little rotten, it ended up being about the same amount of work.

Re: OK, got my suds, here's.....

The only thing I would add is that once you start repairing it, it is tough to know when to say enough is enough. I have replaced things that some people may not have. I first thought I just needed new rocker panels and some patches on the floor pans... man, was I wrong!

Good luck no matter what you decide, Rg

Re: OK, got my suds, here's.....

I have no problem doing the work, no problem what so ever, it's pulling the resources together. A big gearhead friend of mine is here and I'm talking to him about it.....he has accesss to a full body shop. I'm leaning toward bringing her back...I'm a glutton for punishment. I'm hoping he let's me get in there to help out and to get some work done on her...did you say I won't be able to get patch panels for this? WIll this have to be custom fab?

Re: OK, got my suds, here's.....

Patch panels are available for the common problem areas but you have a fair amount of fabrication to do as well. Anything is possible if you're willing to go through with it. As someone mentioned... check the windshield frame closely.

You can't make it any worse than is is but you can spend a lot of money trying. That's a lot of work. IMO you'd be far better off to find a better tub to start with.
