6.2 L92 Swap
Anyone familiar with an L92/6L80E swap with an NP205 transfer case? I have the opportunity to buy the combo for $3500, but having a hard time piecing together the complexity of the actual swap and if I should attempt it or wait for a 5.3 or 6.0 with a 4L80E that might be not quite as complex to marry to the existing transfer case. Or buy the combo, and find a 4L80E to use instead of the 6L? Any insight would be great to help me figure this out. Thank you.

Re: 6.2 L92 Swap
Most of us old-schoolers are not doing LS Swaps based on one reason and many more, Dollars, Fabrication, Dollars, More Fabrication, More Dollars, and then Aftermarket parts.
In doing an LS swap I would estimate on the low side about 5 grand, for one done right I would venture you can get well into the 30 grand range. Just take a look at some of those plug and play units from Chevrolet Performance. No doubt some great stuff there but it is going to take some doing for sure. 2500 bucks for a L31 Block NEW 1000 bucks for a TCI Turbo 350 and then you can afford the fuel |

Re: 6.2 L92 Swap
I was considering using the 4l80e out of my van and I got some really good advice from former forum member Clinebarger. Here's the link:

Re: 6.2 L92 Swap
My opinion: that’s a little high unless it has like 10k miles on it.
The 4x4 to 2wd will cost you some too! I might choose that if I was going with a hot rod, you can cam the l92 and have some serious HP

Re: 6.2 L92 Swap
Thanks for the replies. I passed on the L92 but picked up an LQ4. Maybe a bit more work to get it to fit, but I honestly don't think it's much. You can buy engine mounts, you can get the harness adjusted for your install, have the ECM flashed for your install with minimal connections to make, and there are a variety of ways to connect the 4L80E to the NP205 and you get significantly better gas mileage, more modern reliability and performance, and a much more drive able vehicle long term.
