KS rat rod

My brother spotted this International (?) yesterday in Kansas. I do like the rear bumper treatment.

Re: KS rat rod

That one isn't too bad, just my opinion.
When folks start welding/gluing on all kinds of trinkets and garbage, just to get attention, that's just wrong...

I don't know if there's a term for it..I saw a company, likely in California that builds old junky cars/pickups into primo performing vehicles, that look old and junky, way cool to me!!!

Re: KS rat rod

Since someone brought up Ratrods, here's one I built about 12 years ago.
I don't own it anymore but still see it every now and then.

It was a Ford flathead V8 powered 36 Dodge pickup, 40 Ford pickup bed cut down 33", channeled 6" with a S10 5 spd transmission. Did and still runs like a Singer!

Re: KS rat rod

Thanks Guy's!
I really enjoyed building that little truck because in the Rat Rod World nothing has to be perfect and a little rough around the edges is good!

Re: KS rat rod

It's like when they came out with junk car races. Not demo, some defensive tactics were part of it. Low budget big junk, a few safety changes, bring a passenger, and win the race! I had friends involved in sprint cars, drag cars, modifieds, and they all said it was the most fun they ever had racing. Just a fun way of doing the same thing different

I know you mean sewing machine when you say "singer", and some stock flatheads were so quiet you wouldn't know it was running until you saw the fan spinning, but to my ears nothing sounds as good as a 59AB with a mild cam and glass packs. Radio? We don't need no stinkin' radio, we got a lumpy flat-motor!

Re: KS rat rod

My Dad used to tell me about how his flathead fords were so quiet he couldn't hear them running. Sometimes he'd push the start button and grind the starter drive. When they were tuned up just right the engine hardly moved at idle. But for a low compression engine they sure could make some noise with open pipes. I remember many years ago a guy drove down from Memphis for a show in his 35 ford with straight pipes. Echoing off the down town buildings it wasn't a good sound. How he drove it for 200 miles like that I don't know. I prefer my valves overhead.
