Mini starter engage and release

Mini Starter and flywheel seem to be correct, and good fit. SBC 350...May add a shim. Not ready for start up but wanted to test to be sure starter spins when I turn the key, got about a 6th of a turn when I tap the key. Starter did not disengage, does it retract by itself or does the motor running throw it back?....Thanks in advance.

Re: Mini starter engage and release

When the engine fires it will kick it out. Most the time if you just turn the motor back the other way just a touch the spring in the bendix will release it. A little friction is all that is holding it out.

Re: Mini starter engage and release

Thanks for the response Jimmy, 1 shim took the friction off and seems to be fine now. Thanks again.....Ed.
