If the truck is in near the shape as the sticker, I'm jealous!

It’s a little rough around the edges, but still pretty nice. I’m picking it up tomorrow, so I’ll post some pics when I get it.

If originality is of ANY concern, this is a fake SPID!
It has numerous factual option errors!

In any event I would verify the frame serial number, data plate rivets, engine assembly code and blue certification sticker as original and correct for this serial number.

It goes without saying, the frame itself needs to be checked for wheelbase alteration too.

I'm not as sharp as you with details Tim, but I did wonder why there would be a leaf spring rear on a SWB truck and if this the truck had been cut down that would make sense.. But I guess someone could have ordered a SWB with rear leafs.

My 69 short step is a factory leaf spring truck. With HD leafs at that. If it's a fake SPID, that's not it.

What I noticed is a custom deluxe should read "black cloth trim" not black vinyl

Re: My first C10

I never even looked at the SPID, just the car, but anytime u have a big block, short bed air, tilt with hd springs, tach, am\fm radio and black as original I would question the validity. Personally I wouldn't care unless he wants big $$ for such a rare truck.

Joe, I knew you would get that sooner than later. There's other things too, but it only takes one to spot a fake. And that's a big obvious one.

Re: My first C10

Steve, are you looking for a original documented truck? If not go see it and price it based on what you see. Just don't add anything extra for documentation.

This ^^^

I don’t add anything extra for documentation. Too many people make that a priority and that’s why it’s faked and reproduced so frequently.

Re: My first C10

The quality of the truck and what you are looking for are what is important, and should dictate price.

RE: the SPID. All the St Louis SPIDS I have seen have the C60 4-Season Conditioning listed in the right hand column.

Re: My first C10

Steve, here's a couple of pics to help you locate the frame numbers tomorrow. The engine compartment location is the easiest to see/find. The location under the cab will need a mirror and flashlight to see with the cab on. Both locations have the same partial VIN stamp. A 1972 Chevy St.Louis truck will definitely have the frame stamped with the partial VIN. The partial VIN should be 2S120172, (if the cab VIN matches the reproduced SPID VIN). Check that against the cab VIN plate. And check the cab VIN plate for the correct rosette rivets. Partial VIN's are the last 8 digits of the whole VIN.

The column location just depends on the number of options in front of it. Notice they are in alphabetical order. One more A?? or B?? or C01-59 option ordered and the C60 moves to the other column.

Re: My first C10

I must admit, when I saw the first pic I was thinking it was a reproduction SPID too. These guys know a lot more about originality than I do, but it's just in too good of condition overall when you say the truck itself is a 'little rough around the edges'. I'd be really cautious with this one.

I'm hoping Im wrong, but just be real careful.

Well, I bought the truck. A 1/2 hour into my drive home I hit a deer and wrecked our new Tahoe. But on a good note, all the partial vins match, the cab plate and the rosette rivets are correct. Engine stamp and date are correct. The motor looks like it’s never been out of the truck. Has the original 12 bolt. And with some help from SS Tim all signs point to this truck possibly being a Highlander. I will get some pictures once it warms up. Once again, thanks for staying by your phone SS Tim.
