Spindle nut will NOT come off!

It's on a 1980 GM 10-bolt 6-lug... The driver's side seems to have never been apart, and came apart with no effort. The passenger side has to have been apart because two studs are replaced, and I can NOT get the spindle nut loose. I've even torched it. Any other ideas? I'm totally stumped.

Re: Spindle nut will NOT come off!

I don't recall mine (10bolt 8 lug) having left hand threads. I had to put the spindle socket on the nut and whack it a few times with the BFH, then mine both broke loose. I was scared I was gonna break off the little tabs on the $15 socket, but it took surprisingly more abuse than i thought it would.

Re: Spindle nut will NOT come off!

Have you used a impact? The biggest impact you have access to, or the biggest breaker bar you can get with a 8' section of pipe over it. One way, or another something is going to break... Some Blaster never hurt too.

Last resort is to use a cut off wheel and start grinding a slit into it. you shouldn't even have to get all the way through it. Just most of the way, and the nut will stretch at the groove making it easy to loosen.

I had one that was melted on. It must of been run without grease (not by me). I hammered the spindle nut socket in place and put a 1/2 impact gun on it. Forward..reverse...forward....reverse...PB blaster, repeat. It came off real slow, but it came off.

Re: Spindle nut will NOT come off!

Yeah I used a breaker bar, 4 foot pipe, had someone hold the whole apparatus as tightly against the nut as they could, and smacked it with a BFH.... no luck. The socket took no damage, but the nut did.

This one doesn't look melted and spins normally, but like I said it has been apart before so it could have been put back together with no grease... I guess I can be glad this axle's not getting bolted into anything.
