Frame boxing plates

Is there a vendor that makes a kit with the steel already cut out for boxing an AD frame?

Re: Frame boxing plates

Are you boxing the entire frame, or just for IFS, 4 link, etc...

Re: Frame boxing plates

Progressive automotive and Superior Glass Works come to mind.

Superior Glass also has complete frame rails.

Re: Frame boxing plates

On another note, Speedway has a bolt together chassis kit. In my opinion, it’s a little pricey. After you figure in the IFS, setting up a rearend, etc... at that point, you’re in the ballpark of a TCI or Schwartz chassis.

Now, having some smooth frame rails would be awesome. So the Superior, or Speedway kit is appealing.

I just finished boxing the front on my 54 for an IFS. The amount of cutting, trimming, drilling out rivets, etc.. is kind of crazy. Like I said before, starting with some already smooth rails would definately help in the labor department.

No Limit has several items that it appears you are looking for. I've gotten several things from them and I am happy with everything.

Re: Frame boxing plates

you kids and your kits...
buy half a sheet of 10 gauge steel and cut your own for about 20% of the kit cost
and you'll have enough material left over to make your front end accessory drive brackets, motor mounts, etc...

Ogre, right there with you. I made all my own as well. Don’t want to pay the money for “kits”. 😉

Amen. I really got lucky. My scrap yard had 6" x 10' strips. Bought it at scrap rate, tacked 'em in, cut a little here and there and welded 'em in.

LOL very true Ogre, he asked about kits and I was just throwing that out there. After my almost 4 years of working on my '56 I do understand about looking for some shortcuts! With that being said I know I haven't posted much recently but all I can say is that I hate block sanding.... with a passion!!! And I am at the jamming point for final paint!

Re: Frame boxing plates

Reflecting back on the matter, Having a sheet metal shop or fab shop sheer off some 6" wide strips would be the way to go. Considering most boxing plate "kits" require trimming and welding to begin with.

I have a TF truck, so 6" worked for me. Your mileage may vary with an AD truck. Just here, tryin' to help!
