I read somewhere that a company will take your AM radio and replace the guts with modern electronic's to make it AM/FM stereo?? Does any one know what the name of that company might be??? I read this several years ago??

Thanks for the info. I think that is it. $399.00 is more than I thought it would be though. I thought I might have an am radio converted. I guess I will just use a factory am/fm instead.

Yeah....my truck is a member of the "virgin dash club", but I'm gonna pop its cherry sometime soon, using a dremel

I just can't see spending that kinda money for a truck like mine, that's way too far from original anyway. Honestly, I wouldn't spend that kinda money anyway, I'd hold out and buy one of those little FM converters that they used to make, and call it good

I have been surfing ebay for an old deck to install for looks. I want to mount an older Sony or Pioneer 2 shaft setup in my virgin dash and use it to power the real stuff I will hide.

Just finding one is proving to be more work than I thought.

I am about to install my FM converter in the center A/C slot and make a surround out of an extra ashtray front. (No dash cutting required)

WAS (STILL AM) considering the same thing. it's the old debate, do i fill in my cut dash, or do i resolve to the fact that i drive my truck, and i just want the functionality all in one place, cut dash and all.

what would be the bomb is if someone would just retrofit the originals with a slot for a digital card reader, make it play mp3's, and forget about the cd player alltogether...

hmmm, maybe i'll start a new hobby?

I just want some sound!! Nothing special, but not just AM! I just cant bring myself to cut the dash in the 71 4x4. And, I really like the stock look!

Seems like an ok setup, I'm just not too keen on $180 for a cassette deck when I haven't owned a cassette since '91. That's why I'm looking ebay for $20

haven't tried one. they just aren't quite there yet, imo. i think it's all of those chevy bowties. they junk it up. and you're right, seems a bit hokey to have the cassette deck. how about not having the tape deck, and make it look original, like the am one, with all that chrome!

I have a USA-1, but I threw all of my cassettes away before I got the truck. I can't pick-up FM and I don't know if the problem is with the radio or the intenna.

I had a guy in Texas put a input for XM or a mp3 player in my stock AM radio. It has a small button on the bottom of the first preset button to switch from Am to XM. Its mono but with digital input it sounds OK.It cost about $120. I looked for his website but I don't think he's in business anymore. Chris

I have one of these in my '68... couldn't be more dissapointed. I think for my ''71 I might go for the conversion.

i put an old alpine am fm in my truck fits good sounds good i have a friend that put a old pioneer super tuner in his fits well alsosounds good and both can be amped up or hooked to cd changers

I bought a Custom Autosound USA-2 for my '68, total JUNK, total waste of money. I ended up finding an old Alpine off ebay for $30 that works great.

I put a old JVC two knob, great radio, way better than stock am/fm and cost about $75, but looks like it was in the box for most of it's life. I got it from Lamar, a board member who buys old two knobbers and checks, repairs and fix up to resell. Nice quality, excellent guy who really does a fantastic job, You should PM him and see if he can help...
