1952 AD tailgate installation

Okay guys my inexperience is going to shine. I bought my 1952 without a tailgate so I have bought a new tailgate, new hinges, and new urethane trunnions all from LMC. My question is I have no idea where the urethane trunnions go. The hinge slides into the hole at the bottom of the tailgate with very little travel. What am I missing?

The trunion bushings are for the 54-59 tailgates..hinges are for 47-53. Go back to lmc website and look at application years..

Re: 1952 AD tailgate installation

I quickly figured that out, that is what I get for getting excited and wanting to put in quality parts. Lol I now have have a nice set of trunnions if someone is looking for them. After a few hours of work I have the whole rear end all mocked up and ready for paint. Again my inexperience has shone brightly. Thanks for the heads up.

An educational experience. We all go though them, some of us a lot more than others.

I could start my own parts store with stuff I bought that didn't get used because I got in a hurry at buying time.

Re: 1952 AD tailgate installation

Here is the finished product, I am keeping the truck as stock on the outside as possible, I am even having a hard time thinking about moving the gas tank out of the cab, I know it will be safer and remove the smell but I like the filler neck right where it is at.

Re: 1952 AD tailgate installation

Some people talk about the smell of an in-cab gas tank, but I've never smelled anything at all. If you're smelling fumes, you have a leak - fix it!!!

And as far as danger goes, an in-cab tank is probably in the most protected area possible on the truck. Seldom would an impact get all the way into the cab, but a rear-mount gas tank is the first thing hit when you're rear-ended!
