That 290hp/crate engine is a good match for lighter vehicles....ie: cars including camaro's, chevelles, etc so that is a good move.
As a matter of fact I had read somewhere in the literature that they don't recommend the 290hp for heavier vehicles (ie: trucks)...probably due to the missing low end torque from the cam. If you update the heads while you are doing it you should have good results for the Chevelle. That leaves the truck as an open book for an upgrade....and a 383 is probably the best sbc option for that, crate motor or perhaps (preferred) built locally, thus keeping the money in the community.
