Steering wheel and Horn cap fitment problem

I'm using a 67/68 horn cap and I bought a horn kit from another board member. It's like the horn cap needs to go down farther before it fits around the horn cap retainer, but it won't go down any more. It's like the retainer needs to be taller inside the steering wheel. Did they make taller horn cap retainers? Any suggestions?

Do you have pictures of the top and bottom of the cap. If the horn cap matches the wheel it should snap in. I think there is a difference between the metal cup on the '67-'68 and '69-'72 so it depends on which cup you have.

It's like the rubber isn't thick enough.

You may have the shallow cup and need the deep one. I will measure the one on my '67 and '68 in the morning and let you know the depth so you can compare to yours.

Leon is correct. The rubber grommet is not the problem, you need the other cup.

Thanks for posting that Scott. Saved me from having to go out in the freezing rain/sleet/snow to get pictures this morning....

Anybody got one of the taller ones? Are they 67-68 specific?

Yes, they would be '67-'68 only. You might try teeitup (Randy), he probably has one. He posts a lot on the parts board....

Hello, were you still interested in the used early style cup that was offered/pictured in your WTB thread on the parts board? Have not heard anything from you in a couple of days. Here are some detailed pictures that were taken regarding this horn retainer cap subject, info may be of use for someone searching in the future. Let me know, Mel
