Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Got the heater high speed fan working today thanks to this group. Turned out to be the relay. Ripped out some trailer brake wiring that one of the po's did. Really, old extension cords? I could, see it if it was only temporary but someone went to a lot of trouble and then did a lousy job. Fixed broken lever on the heater controls for defrost. Finish putting back together tomorrow. Changed the steering wheel to a 13 inch Grant. Wow, is that ever better. 6'5" in this truck is pretty uncomfortable with the stock wheel. Try it for a while. May cut a couple inches out of the column later. Really enjoyed working on the old 72. When I look around at it I sure would like to do a frame off restoration. One of these days

Installed pistons on rods, and put them in the block. Found me a 3x2 set up for the go juice. Can't do much outside, its starting to snow. Expecting 8-14 inches

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Yesterday I cut out 60" out of my frame so my dually is now 115" and ready for the step side bed. I actually finished all the welding today and plated inside the frame and outside as well. I am also planning to bolt grade 8 bolts through all three to keep it together. Didn't have any paint other that this bright azz silver but I needed to put something on it as I was going to power wash the entire chassis, motor, trans. while my neighbor had one home for the weekend.

Thanks Ole, it's been a long time waiting to get that major project done. For it being a LWB let me tell ya it was a royal pain in the arse and will really test a man's patience's. Over 75 nuts, bolts & washers to deal with. And just getting the old rusted ones out will make you say things you might regret later..lol But with my friends shop & lift made it so much better. What was wrong with the head? You getting it milled to boost compression?

I just don't have the time to work on my truck due to work, so I dropped it off to a mechanic to have a new steering box, new hard brake lines, adjustable trac bar & rebuild the whole front end including new lower control arms

I drove it to the grocery store, and to get a new bottle of propane for my shop heater. Nothing exciting, just everyday stuff. Because it's truck and that is what they are for.

~ Rust Removal using Electrolysis ~

I am currently using this technique to "de-rust" a pair of Pontiac ram air exhaust manifolds.

Tim's truck got a New set of Wheels, same as my Boss 338s. They look great on his Yellow machine. My truck got an LED brake light tail-light set-up, I like it.

Hey where did you find the LED's? the center ones under the tailgate. Are they for a 67-72 are generic?

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I installed the rear brake lines and hose.

I just took a knotted wheel on an angle grinder to the stock lines and they cleaned right up.

The new brake hose was bought at Napa.

Changed up a few things over the last week. Installed my newly rechromed front and rear bumpers and added P01 wheel covers and Euro styled side markers. Had to small up the pics as they were cell phone pics.

Andy, most of the typical truck parts suppliers stock them, I got mine from LMC I think it was like $60.00. They have the Red Only that does Tail-light, Turn indicators and Brake light in RED Only. And there's another model for the same price that also does White Back-up lights. The unit comes with Sticky Tape and a standard trailer wiring plug.

That thing is insane... Those rear fenders will be the bee's knees. Still say big lug nut spikes will be awesome too... would love to see this in person when done.
