Re: Timing help please

The factory setting varies by the year & model, trans, & carb type. A good starting point is about 6 degrees BTDC. Set the initial timing with the vacuum advance disconnected.

Re: Timing help please

Thanks Wrenchbender Ret, I set it to 6 degrees and had to bring the rpms up a little to keep it running. But then I noticed the #7 header tube was turning red hot so I shut it down. What is causing that?

Re: Timing help please

Generally glowing headers comes from "late" timing but overly lean could cause it too.
Which way did you move when you adjusted it?

Re: Timing help please

When I first started I was at 28.5 degrees according to my digital timing light with vacuum plugged. Had to turn it ccw to get it to 6 degrees. It died twice so I had to bring up the idle. It might be running lean. I'll try to adjust that. It's an Edelbrock 1506. I think I need more initial advance.
