Question Engine and transmission alignment

Should the engine and transmission centerline be in the exact center of a 68 chassiss?

don't mean to hijack but doing a 63 with porterbuilt and tranny 1/4" off, needs to move 1/8 to be centered, so wondering same thing. or if this off center is ok?

All early chevy cars and trucks were almost 1/2 " to the drivers side from the factory...old schoolers claim gm did that for starter-exhaust clearance....notice firewall pooches on our trucks are not centered also...jim
