!988 Silverado 1500 front brake upgrade
Can I install heavy duty front calipers and rotors on my Standard duty truck? If so does anything need to be modified?

Rotors can be updated & fit like your original, and calipers are same. Good front brakes require the rears to be good & properly adjusted. Replace all 5 flex brake lines with SS braided. ( Russell is a good brand) ( I was born in Victoria BC .... BTW )

Thanks Mountie. I will look into finding the parts and changing lines.

Get a 2002 Chevy Tahoe master cylinder. There is an adapter fitting for the forward brake line on the MC. It will give you a firm brake peddle, whereas, the original is soft. You'll love the improvement! ( don't worry about that 'elec. plug-in' on the side of the 2002 reservoir.... that's for newer vehicles with a 'low fluid sensor'.

Re: !988 Silverado 1500 front brake upgrade
No rotors needed. HD 3/4ton calipers and pads fit 1/2ton and LD 3/4ton rotors just fine.

Re: !988 Silverado 1500 front brake upgrade
Stooch, do you have a C1500 or K1500? If you have a c1500 with the LD brakes (1" thick rotors vs the 1.25" thick) the upgrade path includes swaping your spindles and rotors. You have to have the 1.25" rotors to use the 3/4 ton calipers. I ran into this on my 88 C1500.
