Fiberglass fenders?

I stumbled upon an ad here locally a few days ago and my dad and I went out there yesterday. No title truck that was a mix of random parts. The guy was going to send it to the scrap yard and was basically giving things away. I came for the front fenders and left with an interior kit, GMC cab trim, radiator support, bumper (bumper guards!!), and of course some fiberglass front fenders.

I've not got a clue how this truck got fiberglass fenders, it was a rusty turd. It had a steel hood on it previously and I'm wondering if that's such a good idea?? They seemed to hold up okay. I don't see any stress but again the truck was ROUGH.

Does anyone know where you can even get a set, and should I use them? The body shop has to try to fit a set of steel Chinese fenders anyway..

Re: Fiberglass fenders?

I've no experience with Chevy truck fenders, but on Jeeps when moisture makes it to the steel supports fiberglassed into the fender, then they rust & swell the fiberglass. No way to fix it then.
I woulda had to drag the whole truck home & make a trl outta the bed & frame!

He had plans for the front crossmember and the rear differential for his 67 truck. Bed was gone when I got there.

These fenders are pretty rough and weren't taken care of, there's some wrinkles in it and they are separating. I think they are savable and I think I would prefer them over aftermarket fenders from overseas.. I just hope the body shop agrees but I have a feeling they won't.

I didn't think about the supports rusting and swelling..

I did not take the seat, I knew you would ask. If he still has it, it's on my local craigslist and is in Clay City, KY. He's not too fond of holding parts though. It's first come first serve.

Negative. There were no fiberglass front fenders from the factory.
