What year 350 engine blocks fit our trucks?

I know a completely newbie question. I apologize in advance on that

What year range 350 blocks will fit in our 67-72 trucks?

Later years might be fuel injected and not have a fuel pump mounting location. But what year would this changover occur?

Also perhaps a consideration for the clutch pedal shaft mount, thing. I have heard rumor that late model blocks do not have bolt holes for it ???

On more issue may be a two piece vs one piece flywheel seal??? Not sure what that means at all or any impact.


Any help is greatly appreciated! It is time for a winter engine build.

Well, they'll all fit... 1981 and earlier will be a direct swap as far as the block goes with the things that you mentioned. Also, there really is no advantage when it comes to one piece vs two piece seal or 2 bolt main vs 4 bolt mains unless you're building a 450hp+ high revving (6000rpm+) racing engine. The old two bolt main / two piece seal blocks will handle more power and abuse than most would put in our trucks.

The one piece rear seal is to reduce the possibility of an oil leak. When the block was changed for the 86-87 model year the heads were changed as well with the valve covers going to a center bolt pattern as well as the outside edge of the head was raised so that oil leaks could be reduced there as well. It was helpfull to them as a warrantty stand point to lessen the comebacks. Most any will bolt in all small block from sizes 262 thru the 400 displacments are the same size on the outside . All smallblocks will fit without mods. Like the last poster said all blocks till the 81 model year are same barring content of nickel and such that we are not concerned with here. Also all of the goodwrench 350[290hp] use the block from the era we are talking of [if I recall] good luck with your build no question is stupid except the one that go unasked.
