Can you use a mirror and flashlight to read the block casting number? It's on the back ledge where it bolts to the tranny, driver's side.

It's a very old Oldsmobile engine. It looks like one from the 1960's.

Re: can somebody identify this engine?

It is an old's engine. Being that it is in a Chevy truck I would guess that the original engine was a 350 diesel. The 350 old's gas engine was a easy bolt in swap.

Re: can somebody identify this engine?

I would say from the looks of it probably Buick/Olds/Pontiac. Check the bellhousing pattern and get some casting numbers for us. If you get the numbers off the heads too it will help. There are websites you can find using google search to check and find out exactly what it came out of if you get the engine stamping off the deck pad too. It will tell you what car it came in with auto or manual trans and what HP rating from the factory. It looks like it could very well be an olds 350

Re: can somebody identify this engine?

The really wide intake, front oil fill, and valve cover pattern identify it as an olds engine. From there, it is hard to tell.
