89 Suburban tailgate light switch

dumb question:

On my 80 burb, the tailgate light switch (tailgate, not barn doors. located at the passenger side of the area where the tailgate shuts to the body) barely works. Flickers, etc. So I tried to take it loose by removing the 2 screws on it.

It would not come loose, and I didn't want to pry too hard on it and break it.

Has anyone (smarter then me) successfully removed this stupid thing? thanks.

I haven't but if LMC sells any part of that assembly you can at least see the exploded view, just to see of there's any reason you can't tap it with a hammer or pry on it a little.
