Old School Patina 67 SWB Build

Some of you saw me buy this from SpecialtyRetail this week. Gotta say Fred was easy to deal with and a man of his word. Anyway got the truck home and unloaded. Today was small thing, power wash the engine so I could i.d. it.

Drained a whole 2 quarts of oil out of it. Was going to do fresh oil change before start up, but I grabbed the wrong filter apparently. So next up, new filter, battery cables, battery, and a prayer and we will go for start up. Bypassing all wiring for this step.

I learned my engine is a 1972 307 manufactured in April. Rated at 135 horsepower.

Re: Old School Patina 67 SWB Build

How do I upload more than 1 pic without getting security key missing warning?

Truck update: ordered new plugs and wires since old ones were crusty and broke apart while pulling #1. Finished oil change and found last license plate 1985!

Going to hit the pick and pull this week and look for cooling system parts and clutch linkage for 4 speed swap.

My goal is to try and start by end of next weekend. Any advice feel free to add!

what's the plan for wheels/tires/stance?? can't go wrong really with that truck. i would suggest white painted sport bumpers.

Re: Old School Patina 67 SWB Build

I utilize photobucket to transfer my pictures in if they're too large. Real simple and quick. Looks like the perfect amount of patina she should fire up no problem!!

Re: Old School Patina 67 SWB Build

I bought clr to try that trick, but getting engine to fire is first.

Wheels I'm really stuck, 17's like torque thrust or wide rallye with dog dish caps. Guess we will see what I find.

I'm looking for white bumpers with patina, and patina mirrors. Hopefully this weekend allows for junkyard trip.

Thanks for support guys

Re: Old School Patina 67 SWB Build

Finally able to work on it today. Pulled the hood and started doing prep work to start it. Bought a battery at pick n pull while parts shopping.

Started installing new plugs and wires. I'm not optimistic the engine is good. Plugs show signs of massive oil burn and detonation. Amazing this is the first time I've had plug wires disentigrate in my hand!

If the engine is bad that's fine. I sell thousands of reman and new engines a year.

Re: Old School Patina 67 SWB Build

Always nice to start fresh I loved finally affording my crate engine (even though I had to get the heads resurfaced after only 4 months and a massive coolant leak)

Re: Old School Patina 67 SWB Build

Aaron, I have a front and rear bumper off of a 1970 GMC (the front bumper will have the indents for the GMC driving lights, but they aren't real noticable) I'm in western KY so you may be pretty close depending on where you are in Missouri.

If you are interested I can post pics.

Re: Old School Patina 67 SWB Build

Jim thanks but I'm close to Oklahoma!

Crate or a fresh remanufactured engine will be next decision. The engine is toast, it's been poorly maintained and had a bad head gasket or head. Also found fuel in oil pan.

Re: Old School Patina 67 SWB Build

I need to define my next step. Buy running 6 cylinder truck for $800 with granny low 4 speed, or buy new V8 and Saginaw 4 speed from a buddy.

I love the old school look of 6 cylinder, but V8s are always fun.

Advice?

Re: Old School Patina 67 SWB Build

i always thought a straight six was lame til i drove a very original truck with one. so smooth and quiet and just seemed so right. maybe it's the nostalgic factor, or that it's unique these days since everyone goes small block. that's my vote, but i will say there is a lot more value/demand for a sbc.

Re: Old School Patina 67 SWB Build

Trying to work a deal on a 327 instead of buying a new engine. Even at cost of mfg new are pricey.

The CLR trick isn't one I've done yet. But lots of cool posts on here showing it.

First I've got to finish the GTX and then back on the truck.

YJ_Aaron did you find any mirrors? I have the ones on my project that I am starting that you are welcome to. They still function but definately have the aged look to them.

I'll have to check, I bought a pile from a guy who finished his restoration. Either way I really appreciate the offer.

Started cleaning up some of the truck while I await the engine bid outcome. Found this bottle in the bottom of the grill. Pepsi from 1976.
