Anybody use McGaughy's 7" brake booster?

I'm wanting to add a booster to my 4 wheel drum brake set-up with a 250. Has anybody used this setup? Thanks!

No, I just bought a complete used oem one for just the brackets/rod and then bought a rebuilt oem booster from Autozone for about $100. All factory correct now.

Re: Anybody use McGaughy's 7" brake booster?

That was my first instinct also, but I'm just trying to explore all options before jumping into it. As you know, the stock air cleaner won't work on the inline 6's once a booster is mounted. It's going to be very difficult to find an offset air cleaner, so I'll have to use a small aftermarket one. Any other ideas?

I've heard the small boosters don't work that well. Many complain about not enough power assist from the small boosters under 9 inches. Have you though of hydroboost or maybe just adding manual discs to the front?

Re: Anybody use McGaughy's 7" brake booster?

mclairmo,
I've noticed a couple of posts regarding the "ineffectiveness" of the smaller boosters, which is why I was hoping to get some personal experiences before I order one. Regarding the 9" boosters, did some of the cars came from the factory with them?

67cheby,
What is the distance from the firewall to the front of the booster? I tried to get this information from the vendors, but nobody could give it to me.

Thanks for your help guys!

Re: Anybody use McGaughy's 7" brake booster?

Just saw this bump of an old thread, so I thought I would put my 2 cents worth.

I have and ECI 7" booster on my 50 AD (EC-505). It has been on the truck for 11 years, has 22,000 + miles, and I think it works fine. It's not the same as larger ones, but works good. Remember brakes (rotor, caliper, pads, etc) are what stops the car, not the booster. Booster just makes it easier for you to apply pressure.

Here's were I got mine http://www.ecihotrodbrakes.com/chevy...ssemblies.html

Here's a pic of mine installed

Thanks Doug. Yes lines are painted. Use to use One-Shot pinstripper paint and do by hand, now I just clean the lines real good and spray with a good black from spray can...Jim
