Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

do you think that there is any possible way that you could give instructions on how to install?? including pics of the different steps. does the axles have to be removed or will the center circle simply slide over the lugs once you remove the rotors

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

These will work on all the '64-'82 truck 12 bolts as long as you have the 5x5" wheel bolt pattern. If you need a set for 6 lug wheels, I have those as well.

What year Eldorado calipers do you have? These Impala SS caliper brackets will only work with the '94-'96 Impala SS/Caprice rear calipers. If you have a set of the '76-'79 Eldorado calipers, those will work with the D52 brackets. Have you looked at the Camaro brackets? Those are designed for the '93-'97 F-body calipers which have a built in e-brake.

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

Captain Fab,
i rec'd my brake booster bracket Saturday... i must say the design and workmanship is top notch... dont know what you cut these with.. but it does a fine job... also know that you got compliments on your welds too.
the bolt pattern on the Astro van booster fit like a glove... (just note that once the bolts are tightened to the firewall, the braket tends to flex inward, i guess due to the uneveness of the firewall, but this is no problem). i plan to shorten the booster bolts. they are a bit long. shortening will allow better access to tightening...
thanks again.
Rich

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

Yes these brackets are still available. You know I'm not sure about the 10 bolts. The Impala/Caprice 12 bolts are supposer to be the same housing as the truck 12 bolts, but I just don't know about the 10 bolts. If the backing plate bolt pattern is 2-5/8" vertically, and 3-3/8" horizontally, these will probably work.

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

Some guys get away with the original disc/drum master and an adjustable proportioning valve in the rear line, but others don't. I always recommend switching to a disc/disc master cylinder, and either a disc/disc fixed proportioning valve, or an adjustable valve in the rear line.

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

The Corvette master cylinder is very popular when converting to 4 wheel disc brakes. The A1 Cardone part number for the '67-'76 rebuilt master is 101423. The number for the '77-'82 rebuilt master is 101749 and a new one is 131749. I don't remember just what the difference is between the '67-'76 and the '77-'82 is. They are both 1.125" bore......I'll have to check on that.

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

Cool, thanks. Would that apply to any of swaps you have kits for? I read on another post where you compared the costs of all three swaps, so I'm trying to decide which route to go.

Come to think of it, perhaps I should just go all out and do a hydroboost swap as well...

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

Yes, that applies to any 4 wheel disc brake conversion.

Another option for a master cylinder I forgot to mention is, you can also use the Impala SS/Caprice master with those calipers, or a Camaro/Firebird master with the F-body calipers. I don't always think of suggesting those as most guys don't like the looks of the plastic reserviors on those masters.

There is also a manual brake version of the early C3 Vette master cylinder for those wanting 4-wheel disc but don't have enough vacuum for a power booster to work properly. If I remember right is has a 1" bore.

One thing to note: the '94-96 B-Body (Caprice/Impala SS) setup is very conservative, dang near a 95%-5% split, which is terrible. If you want the rear calipers to come alive with the B-Body master and prop/combo valve setup, you should also consider doing the "stealth bolt" mod (an adjustable prop valve is also an option).
