Blazer speaker dashes

I’ve noticed some blazers have the radio speaker mounted under the dash and the dash not having speaker holes on the top of dash.

I’ve also seen a blazer that didn’t have the under dash location, but had the speaker mount under dash by windshield like our pick up trucks.

Why the differences?

Re: Blazer speaker dashes

There have been a few threads about this already. That's the only reason I bothered to check mine. My 72 Jimmy has the speaker grill on top of the dash.

Re: Blazer speaker dashes

Half way through the year in 1972, Chevrolet made a couple of mid year changes. Any Blazer produced with a single wall top will also have the speaker in the dash just like the pickups. I don't know their reasoning but, I've noticed this to be true and accurate.

Re: Blazer speaker dashes

I had a late year 1972 single wall top speaker under the dash next to the heater controls. Personally don't believe they would retool late in a run when they knew The body style was going to change the next year. Personally believe they ran out of blazer cowls on the line and stuck in truck cowls

Wow, I have never seen a single wall top without the indash speaker. You may be correct on GM running out of parts and changing dashes late in the game.

Re: Blazer speaker dashes

This all makes perfect sense. A gentleman brought this question up on a FB group and I figured there's a whole board of knowledgeable people here. I appreciate the responses!
