Trying to find out what transmission is in a 89 Suburban?
Will 700 r4 from 92 Chevy pickup (4wd) work?
Thanks

A 4WD trans will only work in a 4 WD the transfer case bolts on the back of it and it has no tailhousing Like a 2Wd if your burb is 4x4 it will work otherwise no.

tranny went out.

before wreck and it only has about 7500 miles on it. I was
trying to sell but no takers, I was wondering if it could be
converted from 4WD to 2WD had a couple folks tell me all
I needed to do was remove transfer case and get new
tailshaft??????

Thanks

Don, you would need the tailshaft as well as a new output shaft, roughly 250 to 300 for parts plus labor for the change out. Mark

250-300 thats high my trans guy would swap an output for 100 but he prefers not to since you have to take the trans all the way apart .. He builts a 700 benched for 575 with alll good parts.

Look around you Might find someone that would trade for a good auto out of a 2wd If you were closer Id Try to get that trans for my 88 but Im just going to end up having mine benched 575$ lol .

I am assuming he doesn't have a trans guy, for the normal joe it is not a cheap affair. Basically by the time you buy the trans and pay for the swap you are money ah eadgetting a 2 wheel drive trans. I have built several 700/4L60's and the good parts are actually more than $575 without labor....I doubt he is changing the sun gear, servo, etc for that price. Mark
