Moving

Well I'm out of Southern California. Bye bye traffic.

But now I have to pack. I hate packing and have had to do it all week.

You never realize how much junk you have until you have to pack it up.And I only have two more weeks. My new tenant has already given notice at his house. So I need to get out.

My wife is already at the new place. And she's working 7 days a week. So I'm on my own.

If I never see bubble wrap again, I'll die a happy man. Packing a 4 bedroom house is a PITA.

I probably shouldn't even be typing this. But I needed a break. I'm sick of packing.

Well I guess it's time to fill another box. Hello bubble wrap...Again.

Re: Moving

Good luck with that. I hate moving also. It would take me just 2 weeks to pack the shop, let alone the house. Hope it all goes smooth for you.

Thinking about moving out of Cali also, 18/24 months and retirement looks pretty good, everyday that light at the end of the tunnel gets brighter and brighter. If you don't mind me asking where you headed?

Re: Moving

Yep I moved in 2016 and about to move again this year in the summer. This time though we are hiring movers to move the heavy stuff. When I moved to where I am now, I rented the biggest budget truck they had and had my buddy help. We got the first load done at about 1pm and was 107 degrees out, went to turn the AC on in the truck and it didn't work.... it was a very long and hot 3 days.

Re: Moving

Hard to believe but it's been well over 40 years since we last moved.
Wife & I have spent those decades accumulating stuff, much of which we never use and wouldn't miss if it were gone.
But since we *might* need it some day, we hang onto it.
I think I'd rather live out my days here than face a move....

Re: Moving

I'm just moving from So. Cal. to central California. I wanted to move to Arizona, but she has a good job here.

The house is in Wofford Heights. By Lake Isabella and Kernville. It's much nicer than the one we have there now. Cell phones work, paved road, and central heat and air. 5 minutes from town.

Our other house is out in the sticks. It's nice but no cell phone, the landline is terrible. It hangs up on you right in the middle of a conversation. and getting stuck in the mud gets old fast.

Everything works at the new place. Now I just have to get my old boat running again since I'm by the lake. But it should be no problem since it's a chevy inline 6.

I'll throw some pic's in. I think I may have posted some before. When I was hoping to get it.

Back to packing!

Nice place! Any room for a new toy shop?

It looks warm... it's so cold here... I hate winter.

And yes you can run a 350 it's a big lake. Just don't hit a tree. It's a man made lake and there are still tree's in it

Re: Moving

Just keep telling yourself "it will be over soon, and my real life begins".

WE moved a lot when we first got married. WE could still make money on houses then, and we had our place paid for by the time I was 29.

We stayed there almost 20 years. When our youngest left for college, I got so melancholy I talked the wife into moving close to town. We lived there 10 years, and I got a shop in another location.

My wife traded for this house 8 years ago, and I have acreage for a shop, but I hate to take the time to build one here.

Bottom line, I'm a very experienced mover, but I haven't learned to like it.

Re: Moving

That's where my dads family ended up when they fled the dust bowl in the 30's. Musta been '35, my dad was 12. I have an aunt & uncle probably very near you and a cousin from a different aunt in Kernville, and various others spread out around the Bakersfield area. We were out to Kernville a couple years ago in October for a reunion and there was a fair or something going on. Seemed late for a county fair, but along those lines. It was lots of fun, though, and I want to go again sometime.

I originally wanted to move to Kernville. It's a nice place. But we found this place and it's just a few minutes away. And we have more room.

You must have been there for the Fall Festival, it's in October. Whiskey Flat Days is coming up in February and its always a lot of fun.

http://www.gotokernville.com/whiskeyflatdays

And they have a pretty good car show in October.

It's a fun town. I just have to keep my wife out of the antique stores. She loses her mind and buys a bunch of stuff.

Re: Moving

Last time I moved it took me 2 years as I had nowhere to put stuff and nobody would come get it .I donated all the furniture and appliances .I still have everything from that move boxed up from 25 years ago .No telling what I might find in those boxes .More likely will be found by my neice and nephew when I die.

I have been to Kernville many times on my bike. My buddies and I use it as a long rest spot. We usually stay a couple of days. I really enjoy that town, lots of fun.... It's nice to see water in the lake again.

Yeah that lake was getting pretty low for a while. Now they are letting water out of it (Or at least they were).

Re: Moving

Just made our final move.
Moved too many times over my adult life, the biggest pain was moving back and forth from Guam. (USAF). Back when I was young, doing a DIY move in the AF was a way to make some extra pocket change, but nowadays, I get just plain tired. Moved from San Diego to Phoenix and nearly killed myself with all the stuff we had packed into holes and storage units. Fortunately, when we sold our small house in Phoenix and moved into a much larger home, most of our stuff was already boxed up, still had to do the labor to make the 4 mile move, but we are now done.

Re: Moving

A very long time ago when I was young & single, my job involved moving all over the country. Never knew when or for how long but you needed to be ready to go at any time. For a while, I had a '65 Corvette roadster. The top folded into the space behind the seats and there was no trunk. Even with a decent-sized tool box, I was able to fit everything I owned into that car, with the top down. Seems incomprehensible to me now....
