Has anyone on the board ever thought of installing a V6 engine and trans from a late model Camaro into a 67-72 C-10. With a little more than 300 Hp it might be a nice swap. Just a little food for thought, there must be a lot of these motors out there. I think now may be the time to do it.

I had thought of it for a rcsb since that engine likes to wind out a bit. Combined with the 6 or even 8 speed auto it would quite a vehicle to drive hard. I would also look at the Colorado version. No difference besides tuning which can be dealt with.

Powerful enough to have fun, but not out exceed the trucks potential with even a basic set up.

The combo weighs about 300 less then a iron sbc with th350.

Only down side I believe is lack of power steering pump. When I looked the Camaro use electric power steering. But with all the weight gone it would be quite easy to drive one handed.

Lastly I would move the engine forward, and up a bit. The trans hangs lower then a typical TH350 so if your going a 4/6 on a drop you could be in danger of a hang up. As for moving it forward it is so light, and small it will still mean less weight on the front tires. Plus make servicing easier when needed.

Dont forget the new 4.3. You can slap on a centrifugal supercharger, and get big hp. Which can be cheaper then a 3.6 since it can interchange parts as a Vette that you can get cheap used.

If that is your truck in the photo I'd stay with that 292, keep a good old truck engine

Thanks for the replies and the information. I hadn't thought about the PS, the one I bought new in 69 didn't have it, but today at my age I would miss it. The thoughts on the installation are also interesting. Yes, this is how my truck sits currently, hopefully it will be on the road this summer. Funny, I use to live in Pacific, Mo. I most likely will continue with the 292 and the 200-4R.

If P/S is the only issue, there are kits for electric steering or websites that show how to use Saturn parts.
