Re: Names you would like to see ressurected
I Forgot about the Colt. I think Chrysler got away with the Colt, because if brought up in court, all they would have to say is: "We were referring to the young horse, not the pre-existing company."Unfortunately for GM, Beretta is a trademarked name, that cant be considered a common noun or phrase. Either that or Chrysler paid Colt royalties for the name, like they paid Warner Brothers for the Road Runner. Another Roadrunner would be cool since we are in the subject of defunct names.

Re: Names you would like to see ressurected
I hope if they ever bring some of these names back they make some bad ass cars to back up the names.
Look what was done to the Malibu, that was a shame. I am not much of a Mopar fan but they must have some old school hot rodders still over there. |

The Marlin was made by AMC from '65-'67.

Re: Names you would like to see ressurected
I don't care about names coming back. I want what we envision when we hear the by-gone names to come back. I'm into Indian Motorcycles. The last one was built in '52. The name has been bought and sold with some attempts to produce bikes under the name. Honda bought it a long time ago just to kill the name. Then came the attempts to revive the brand ever since. Like I said, the last Indian was made in '52. What I see being marketed now are some new-fangled modern motorcycles with an Indian logo and styling cues from the real thing. On the other hand, you have Harley Davidson who have operated continuously. I see them as the real thing that has evolved into a modern motorcycle while always retaining some original element. When both brands were running strong they were fierce competitors. It was like the Ford/Chevy thing. Now that Indian is gone you have people who are into old bikes liking both, but couldn't give a rat's butt about this new thing with the old name.
Chevy brought back Nova and Pontiac brought back Lemans on the same platform. The real ones were never on the same platform, it was Lemans/Chevelle. Did these returning names mean anything to anyone here? Did anyone see any connection other than the name? It's just marketing. The Nova was never a sub-compact. If they wanted to revive a name they should have called them Chevettes.

Re: Names you would like to see ressurected
Exactly !!! Special K hit the nail square on the head. The new Charger ? Not saying it isn't a good car but what aspect of it was even a charger ? Pontiac came out with the new GTO, it wasn't anything but a hyped up Grand prix. You just can't beat old school

We are making a scout "new" again in the shop. Lot of rust repair, handmade inner fenders and whatnot.

Re: Names you would like to see ressurected
That is the only thing I hate about International Harvesters. Everything has to be fabricated. Parts just are not a few clicks away like a Bronco, Blazer, or Jeep CJ. Parts availability is a factor I use when considering to buy a vehicle. Lots of cool stuff suffers this problem, unfortunately. Jeep J series, older Dodge, and International pickups, to name some examples.

The Vega and Power Wagon are a couple of my favorites. A friend of mine had a 41 Power Wagon.

Re: Names you would like to see ressurected
The old International Carry-Alls were awsome, but the GM Suburbans, Jeep Wagoneers, and Cherokees destroyed whatever chance they had. If International Harvester came back, I would like to see a 2 door long wheel base Scout, that could be converted to pick-up configuration with ease like the old Jeep Scramblers.

Re: Names you would like to see ressurected
Unfortunately people get offended by names like that. That is why the Jeep Cherokee recieved a decade long hiatus. It would surprise if Chrysler is paying the Social Justice warriors to keep their mouths shut. I myself would be honored to have a car named after me, to each his own though.

Re: Names you would like to see ressurected
Always liked the name "Bricklin", after seeing one of the ill fated rattletraps as a kid. Beautiful car, would look good remade today if they could do without the abysmal quality control of the originals (and snakey creator)
There is a documentary on you tube that is a must see for car people. It shows the rise and crash of the car and was very interesting. Search bricklin and it comes up bricklin, documentary.
