Junkmandan3's C3500 Fenderside

Dan is a member here who plays in the Heavy Haulers area of the site. I have known of him and his GMC for quite a while, but due to our limitations with computers, PDFs, and sharing pictures there have been no pictures to share. I started a thread over there because that is where he hangs out, but also because he swapped in a Detroit Diesel 4-53. Here is a link, because I think many will find his truck interesting

He's got quite a history with that truck. We don't see many diesel conversions.

Re: Junkmandan3's C3500 Fenderside

I remember this truck from a magazine article years ago! I believe it was a Wheels of Time? What a cool truck! And it does what a truck is meant to do! I remember it showed some of the loads it had hauled and the camper they pull. It also had won an award at an ATHS event I believe for distance on 1 gallon of fuel. I may be wrong on some of this since that was an article from years ago but it left a Big impression on me! Can only imagine the places and things this truck has done.

Re: Junkmandan3's C3500 Fenderside

You are correct, Rob. Dan built this truck in the '80s and it was in Wheels of Time. I should have those articles on PDF that Dan e-mailed me a few years ago. I have an offer from someone who can convert them to post here. If I somehow deleted them I'll get him to send them again. Good memory!

Glad to see another member interested in truck builds unlike the current trends. But I already knew that about Blazerman. Here are some pictures for this thread in case that's the reason this great build outside of the box has gotten no response. I should have titled this, "Coolest 9' Fenderside On The Planet!"

Was I wrong? For me, the coolest truck builds are the ones that are original creations born in the builder's mind. Not cookie cutter copy cat follow the leader slightly varied trendmobiles. This truck was conceived and built before many here were born and is still a toy being played with by it's owner. What he did was totally custom, attractive, relevant, and absolutely functional... back then and now. And more recently, I have seen younger guys doing the same thing on You Tube

Re: Junkmandan3's C3500 Fenderside

I guess I underestimated this group's appreciation for innovative ahead of the curve thinking. This truck was built before the late 67-72 craze, the diesel craze, the appreciation of long bed Stepsides, and very many ground-up re-engineered custom rides. This guy did 30+ years ago what people are doing now that the internet has brought such things to you. Very few people were doing "frame-offs" on these trucks back then. All I know is this guy (me) thinks this truck is awesome cool. Not your tacky '80s style truck. This one is still way cool.

Dan sent me these undercarriage shots I thought a few would appreciate

Re: Junkmandan3's C3500 Fenderside

Tim thanks for sharing this. I totally dig this truck. Not sure how I missed this thread. I personally like the heavier trucks, but i might be biased owning a C20....

Re: Junkmandan3's C3500 Fenderside

Glad you can appreciate it. Threads can move fast on here. It shouldn't matter, and I'm not going to tell his age, but let's just say Dan is a senior among us. Worked as a Detroit Diesel rep and is a wealth of knowledge on these ole GM soap burners

Re: Junkmandan3's C3500 Fenderside

I really dig the older tech, (TOTALLY appreciate the new) but there is something to be said about our roots. Old iron. The fact that we can pull a switch apart in our trucks, clean contacts, replace springs, and we're rolling again is so unreal. Wheel bearing? Psh. Repack with good grease, keep rolling. Can't do anything like that with the new stuff unfortunately. This truck is awesome because it's different. I quit going to shows around northern Utah because I got tired of seeing the same vehicles year after year. No offense to anyone, still cool, I just like different.
