1954 Cab with 47-53 front end

Hey guys,

quick question. does the front end and hood of a 47-53 ad truck mount up to 54-55 first series cab. If so, are there any issues or challenges that I should be aware of. I found a 54 cab but with no front sheetmetal but I have a mostly complete front end from a 1950. Any info, tips, tricks or potential problems would be great.

thanks

brian

I'm pretty sure it is a bolt on as long as the frame is Chevrolet. I've seen a couple around here that were daily drivers at the time just because the owners banged them up and couldn't find a 54 Nose.

The problems start when you want to use a Chev nose on a GMC frame or a GMC nose on a Chev frame as the front crossmembers are different and each has it's type specific core support.

I agree, the nose and the front cross member on the frame should match or you'll have challenges. The differences can be overcome, but be aware you'll face them if you are mixing brands.

That same cross member issue will affect installation of a stock motor.

If we're talking half or 3/4-ton the bed needs to coordinate with the frame. If you have a frame earlier than '54 you can not use a '54 or later bed. There should be no problem using a '54 bed on an earlier frame. On a 1-ton it should make no difference.

And if you decide to use an S-10 or other frame because you don't have a frame it's all build mounts and fit anyhow.

It should fit just fine. Its been done a hundred times. It just makes the best looking trucks in the world (54/55) not as pretty.

5150 has front fenders for sale for a 54/55 in TN if that'd help Keep America Beautiful!

(I have 3 54 Chevy's so I'm partial)

Hood is NEARLY the same. The ornament location is different. We've got a '50/51 hood on my son's '54 right now.
