Biography
• What is your name? Mike
• Please share a few things about yourself.
I’ve got a wife and 2 kids. Don’t have all the time in the world to work on this truck, but as kids get older, I’m sure I’ll have more time. Not being able to work on it frustrates me to the point of selling it even.
• How long have you owned your truck?
1 year
• What made you decide to buy this truck?
When I was younger I lowered trucks and missed having a fun vehicle. Origianlly wanted a 1932 Ford Roadster, then considered a 1957 Belair. Then thought having a pickup might be useful and the headlights are similar to the Belair so….bought the 1957 pickup.
• How do you store your truck, at home, garage, outside etc?
Summer at home in a 1.5 car garage
• What do you enjoy about your truck the most?
The feeling of how a 1957 truck drives. And the appreciation people have for keeping it alive. It stands out compared to today’s vehicles.
• Who or what was your biggest influence in building your truck?
Groundbound64 came to my cottage trailer and said he was going to look at a truck. He planted the seed and I ended up buying this truck….and before he bought his too.
• What has been the biggest obstacle you have faced in working on your project? How did you/do you handle it?
Haven’t done much yet. I think the biggest hurdle I’m facing is the plan. Foose said it costs just as much to build an ugly vehicle as it does to build a nice one. I agree with that. I need a plan first, then I’ll go for it.
• What/who is you favorite/best part source?
So far, I’d have to say Brothers over LMC. Seems like prices are better at Brothers. Ebay is looking good though lately.
• What are some things have helped your project to be a success?
Can’t really answer that as it is too new but I like collecting antiques for the truck, like an old 1957 coin or an old keg for bed of truck. I’m looking at some other cool add ins to make it more nostalgic.
• What is the history behind your truck?
The truck was rebuilt in 90’s but not full out. The floor is rusted so that wasn’t addressed. Later on diamond plate was used but it was welded over the rotten floor so not a fan of that. I would have preferred the old crap removed, and new floor properly welded.
• What do you use your truck for? (hauling, cruising, daily driver, shows, drag racing, work truck, mudding etc):
I’ve carried sod, plants, big toys, a huge wood beam, and all sorts of stuff with it. I don’t want to baby it. I originally wanted a rat rod, so might as well treat it like a rat rod now.
• What is your favorite memory with your truck?
I must say I love driving around with my son. He’s 3 and absolutely loves the old truck. He fits under my arm as we drive and he likes to hold on to steeting wheel.
• Whats your favorite modification done to truck and why?
Already done: must be the engine swap.
Future: will be an independent front suspension and probably airbags.
• If you had one thing to do over on your build, what would it be and why?
N/A…
• What are your future plans for your truck?
IFS with disc brakes, triangulated 4-link, Airbags, stereo (nothing too crazy), 700R4, new diff for gear ratio, new paint scheme,
• What words of advice do you have to people who are just starting out with their project?
For me, I overthink everything so progress is slow, then I dive in and everything works out. So I guess my advice is to plan but then tear something apart….at least then you’ll be forced to fix it. And then only after should you think about out how you’ll pay for it..haha
