C-10 question

Hey guys,

I am got myself a 69 C10 and am working on restoring it. It has a 250 v6 in it with a 4 speed. It runs like a champ but I am thinking about sticking a 350 in her. Will that bolt up to the 4 speed? Or is there an adapter kit if not.

I think you will be fine on both 3 or 4 speed. Sure someone will post that has done it recently.

My understanding is that all of the truck bellhousings are the same, so anything should bolt up. Engine mounts are another issue, but its straightforward with the 250. Do some searching, there are a bunch of good threads on doing the swap.

they both have the same 4 bolt main, if it was a smaller l6 than you would need an adapter

I have a son that will be driving in a few years so I am driving it back and forth to work and working on it at night when I get time. I kind of like the fact that it looks a little rough. I just want it to be solid and safe driver and he will have something to work for and spend his money on instead of booze and drugs. I am kind of falling in love with it driving it to work. The thing runs and drives very nice. I had a body shop put new floor pans, cab corner and rockers in in.

First, welcome to the board from TN!

Honestly man, I'd leave the I6 in it. If it runs really good, you drive it daily just put that $1500 or so into something else. Maybe start a 'truck fund' for your son to help him save for stuff he wants to add to it. It will teach him some money management skills, and saving for the stuff he really wants. (?) Just an idea. The 6cyls in these old trucks are pretty solid old motors..

Or, let him make the call (?) Ok, so we have $1500 to spend. Would you rather have a new seat cover, interior stuff or put all the coin into the motor and wait on the rest till later? Maybe swap it over to discs for him? Just a good dependable truck you wont worry about him too much with a lot of power or 8-10mpg.

Just my .02 worth.

Welcome to the board. First off I agree with CC69Rat to leave the six in it for now. When and if you decide to go the V-8 route it will bolt to the bell housing fine. That will put the distributor pretty close to the firewall but it will fit. You can go with the divorced coil HEI for more clearance if you want though. You will need to replace the six cyl frame mounts with V-8 ones as they are different, and the radiator for the six is only a 2 core radiator, so I would go with at least a 3 core. Drive line would remain the same.

If you're concerned with safety keep the 6 and swap in the front disc brakes. Not to mention gas prices. Oops I mentioned gas prices.

We'll guys decided to go ahead and put a TBI 350 in it with an auto trans. Used a B&M shifter. Let me tell you. It was the ticket. Totally makes the truck awesome. Can't believe how much power it has in that truck.
