Re: Bmxbang's 71 Project

I like the look of the 71/72 milk crate grill more then the 69/70 grill

They definantly both have there pros and cons but for me the 69/70 grill has more pros that my current 71 front end. If I had unlimited funds id have a 67-68 but I don't want to swap the whole front clip.

I'm taking advantage of my old step side bed while I still have it and using the truck like a truck.

Re: Bmxbang's 71 Project

finally getting around to making some progress with the old exhaust out of the way I have been cleaning up the frame rails. that has consisted of pulling out all the old fuel lines and cleaning up and re running some of the Newer wiring and adding new clamps for the current fuel lines and current wiring. I wanted to get that all done before the new exhaust goes in. Still have a ways to go but its looking a lot nicer and less and less like a rats nest under there

Re: Bmxbang's 71 Project

Got both sides of the Speed Engineering Long tube Headers in today for a test fit. Both sides fit no problems with frame clearance. Only problem is my stock transmission crossmember was re used and I have decided instead of putting some pretty extensive bends in the exhaust to just go ahead and replace the crossmember with one from Ingenuity Fab and Speed to make running the exhaust a whole lot easier and to keep it tucked up near the frame rails and out of site.

I used a very cheap trans dapt one from Summit (maybe $50) and it fit great in the stock holes and provided tons of clearance for my exhaust/Speed Engineering headers. Just a FYI.

Thanks for the heads up! I went ahead and already ordered the other one as I didn't think the cheaper ones would give me the clearance I wanted for the 3" exhaust tubbing lol should have waited! I appreciate it!

If that cross member doesn't work, THere's a company called Dirty Dingo that makes one...

Had my buddy Dave weld up the V band clamps today on the headers and some 3" exhaust tubing. Sadly this will be the only pretty picture of welds I will get to post. Im going to clamp the mufflers and then just dump it after the mufflers.

Re: Bmxbang's 71 Project

finally got around to ordering mufflers going to go with Black Widow Venom 250's I think they sound amazing on the ls motors with a cam. Hopefully get the exhaust wrapped up in another week or so then it's time to tear apart the rear end and give it a refresher.

Re: Bmxbang's 71 Project

Damn that sounds MEAN! I love what you've done with her so far... My initial thought on the first post was "yuk, ditch those blingy wheels and drop it to the floor..." and sure enough within a few posts, you had done exactly that! Keep up the good work, and post some more videos of that exhaust sound! maybe a drive by if you can? I've got a 6.0L swap in my '62 Impala, and I kept the flowmaster 44s that were on it when it was a 350/th350. It sounds good, but I've always liked the Black Widows, I feel like they're made just for LS swaps.

Im a fan! they are a little pricier than good old flow masters but I think they are worth it for a little different sound.
