LQ4 Short Block...Intake???

I found a low milage LQ4 short block for about $650 that I was thinking of picking up , the guy aslo has some L92 heads for sale for $500 or so that I was thinking about. Have a couple questions

Intake - How good is the edelbrock Pro-Flow? Looks killer but does it perform? What type of Throttle body and what size would work??

If I go with an aftermarket intake I guess I would just get an aftermarket ECM?

Man I have a lot of catching up to do with these motors!!!!

Re: LQ4 Short Block...Intake???

theres huge potential with the stock ecu's with the right tune, ill be running the stock ecu for my eng/trans and getting a local tuner to set it all up for me. the pro-flo is getting good reviews especially with the turbo crowds (holley has a similar unit thats more expensive and better looking imho, but not for cathedral heads yet), if your planning na i would stick with an ls3 manifold or the l76 on the the l92 heads or if youve got the dollars the fast 102 is always an option. if you take the l92 heads remember they are rect. port not cathedral. tb choice will come into which intake you decide on, lots of stock ported tb's being run with good success.

id head over to ls1tech and do some reading there, if your in need of ls information thats the place to ask.

Do the L92 heads make more HP than the LS1 Cathedral type?

Re: LQ4 Short Block...Intake???

l92's will outflow a stock ls1 head yes. but there are some great flowing cathedral heads out there as well. its all going to come down to your goals and what your want to use on your motor. is cathedral better or is rect better? im not touching that one.

Re: LQ4 Short Block...Intake???

Re: LQ4 Short Block...Intake???

Lq4 w/ 799/243 heads to bump compression, long tube headers, and a mid range cam will get you to 450hp cheaply, easily, and reliably. Use stock PCM for cash savings- aftermarket if you wanna spend money. The pro-flo is an upper rpm intake- it will likely kill a street motor down low. L92s are a good choice, but will need a high lift cam to take advantage of the flow capabilities. They also require specific intake and rocker arms, but not a big deal if you're starting from scratch...

Re: LQ4 Short Block...Intake???

pro-flow is cool, imo if you are gonna go l92 heads the lsxr/t intake is the tits, but super pricey.
