Fixing cab roof/drip rail rust?
Yesterday I started by removing the cracked and foggy windshield from my truck to find I have bigger problems than I thought.
This damage on the bottom I'm going to fix today and I shouldnt have any problem with. But I'm worried about how to fix this. Not only is the windshield lip rusted off but the A pilliar is bad for about 2" and the rust goes though to the inside roof in a small section. Not to mention the roof is rusted through and seperated from the drip rail in a couple of spots. How do I go about fixing this? Do I need to cut through the inner roof and fix the outer and then fix the inner with this? http://www.tri-proautomotive.com/ser...anel%2C/Detail Or am I just screwed Thanks in advance. |

Re: Fixing cab roof/drip rail rust?
more..
Its starting to look like replacing the entire roof would be the best option. Like what msgross did here. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=332409&page=3 Has anybody repaired a roof this bad? The rest of the cab isn't bad, needs rockers and corners but everything else is good. If not, anybody got a roof for sale? |

You'd probably be better off finding a new roof to put on there. Not saying it can't be fixed, but with the time and effort you might wanna consider the previous.

I have worked on worse and believe me even though i like doing this type of work I get real sick of doing it. You just started. It will get worse when you get into it. I would get at least a new roof off a donor. Or find a complete truck with a good cab or at least better cab. They are around. You will be $$$ ahead to wait and find one. You have to do the rockers anyway may as well do them on a better cab. I hate to say it but I would junk that one. Mike |

Re: Fixing cab roof/drip rail rust?
My two cents worth, if the cab is that rusty up top, the floor and rockers cant be looking to good?
I have pepaired many cabs like that but. I would recomend you look for another cab. Cabs arent that rare and unless your a super good welder and have many extra hours Replacing the cab would be best! |

Just grab another cab and use that one for possible parts or patches.

Re: Fixing cab roof/drip rail rust?
wow man. I have a 67 cab with a title, it is in good shape. Good floor, good corners, good roof etc. It has some surface rust and needs one rocker panel and thats it. If you want to check it out let me know. Unless your pretty good at bodywork, welding etc. that cab might burn you out.
