Clutch needs adjustment

Hey all,

After putting my remanufactured 250 in the 66 (it runs great by the way) with new clutch and transmission, my clutch is giving me fits. I give the pedal a full throw, but am unable to shift gears because of the horrible grinding. When I inspect the plates behind the dust cover, I can see that the pressure between discs is lessened but not separated enough to shift gears. Besides trying to lengthen the clutch linkage to get a further throw are there any adjustments I can make? Will adjusting the clutch fork ball joint do anything for me?

Unless there is adjustment under the dash, I think the only thing you can do it adjust it from down below. Is the fork correctly attached to the bell housing and the fork in the TO bearing. Most importantly....do you have the right TO bearing in there. Is this a combo that was working before? I realize it's a newish motor.

Well, the whole clutch assembly was replaced as a unit (new TO bearing, release bearing, clutch, etc.) Unfortunately, I cannot compare the old and new units, but when I installed it everything seemed the same. I will double check that the fork is connected appropriately and try to see if I can get a further throw from underneath the truck. Thanks for the reply.

I agree, with all of what pro-street had to say Just another thought....there are 2 spots to plant the bottom arm on the fork, & they will change the clutch "feel" Check 1st, that you do not have an issue, with throwout bearing length, & go from there? crazyL
