Larger gas tank

I have looked around and can't find a larger tank for my '71 burb. It looks to me like a 40 gal out of a '74 should work if I turn it around so the filler is on the correct side. Has anyone done this or know where I can get a larger tank? Dave

Re: Larger gas tank

I think the big tanks were a dealer installed option. Ive seen a ton of these tanks on burbs and even a few on blazers. I used to have two myself. You should post a want to buy over in the parts area, I bet there are some out there people have discarded.

Re: Larger gas tank

I never knew there was a 40 gallon tank !!! My 78 blazer had a 30 and my GM restoration packet says 17, 21, 23.5 are all that was offered factory on on the older models. If anyone has the info they should post it. I've been looking for a work van tank but if some of the Suburbans had them I'll look there too. With all the new DEQ laws in affect we have a lot of 75-87s that are being parted out around here.
