CPP Front Disc Brake Kit and Rack&Pinion Steering
Hey guys, just got my 66 moving under its own power again and it doesn't seem to turn very sharp. I'm running a CPP front disc brake kit and a Unisteer rack and pinion steering setup. It feels like there may be more throw in the rack but I can't say for sure.
Has anyone modified the steering stops and gotten more steering out of it? |

That is normal for you to lose some of your sharp turing ability. To better clear everything they cut down on your steering range. Not sure if there is any fix another than being aware of it and adjusting your driving style accordingly.

I think it is just the fact it is lowered. Mine does not have the rack-&-pinnon, just standard truck box steering and it is the same issue. You can't turn as tight.

Are your spindles up against the stops? If so, you might try trimming them a little, but be careful you don't cause another issue.

Years ago i put a rack in my 56 Nomad and had the same problem. Turning radius was cut down a bunch. The fix was different steering arms (they bolted to the spindles) the after-market came up with new billet arms that were shorter than stock. This fixed the problem. I don't know of anyone that makes a spindle for use with a rack/P. Not a fix for you but some info.
