Turbo sb chevy c10

Hey guys! I have got a question about a turbo SB chevy. Heres the deal. Im a teenager who has a 70 C10 LWB and I dont think a turbo fits its personality very well but its got 3.08s in the rear and its really slow. I want to put a junkyard turbo on it, say maybe off of a 7.3 ford. It is a Ramjet 350. It has a aluminum EFI manifold with vortec heads and it makes 351 hp and 403tq.

Any advice? Thanks.

I can't give you much advise, but here is a thread that another member has a turbo charged SBC in a square body. He has been driving it for a few years. I see PB robbed his pics too, but you can read through it or hit him up for info and questions I'm sure.

A rear gear change would likely be cheaper than everything to add a turbo and will give you better acceleration.

Re: Turbo sb chevy c10

Ramjet as in the EFI crate motor? Those are no slouch and should move that truck around pretty well. There is so good aftermarket support for the ECU that can wake that engine up even more. As for turbos, there is a whole science behind those. You don't just go pull one out of a junkyard and slap it on and go. Put on a turbo that isn't right for your engine and you can really turn it into a dog. IIRC, the Ramjet is a 10:1 CR which will limit the boost you can run.

I second the advice from CaptainFab - go with a gear change. Maybe loosen up to the converter a little if it is an automatic.

Re: Turbo sb chevy c10

I'm a huge fan of Engine Masters the web show from Motor Trend Online. They did a junkyard swap onto another V-8. And tested it on the dyno.

Here are my key takeaways from their project:
1) get the turbo solidly installed (proper clamps, brackets, exhaust manifolds and so on)
2) get the right fuel system (special carb or EFI system)
3) make sure you open up the ring gaps.
4) Don't forget #3
5) have fun

With that kind of HP/torque you should get moving pretty easily even with 3.08 gears. What transmission are you running, and is it possible you have the wrong torque converter?

Re: Turbo sb chevy c10

I have a stock vortec 350, a Holley 4 barrel, headers, and 307 gears. Everyone including me seem to be impressed on how well it runs. Maybe you have some tuning problems.
