Puff Of Blue At Start Up?

1993 C V6 w/200,000 miles

Just did fuel pump, O2 sensor and EGR.

Now I get a pretty good puff of blue/grey out of the exhaust on start up. Start up only.

Valve guides?

Any other ideas?

Good source for remanufactured heads ready for a direct swap if that is the problem?

JSeegs, It's called the Chevy Salute. Replace your valve stem seals.

Seals or guides, could be either. As long as it's only at start-up and it's not burning a good bit of oil, leave it alone. Put a Harley sticker on the back window and nobody will think a thing of it.

It could also be the return holes are plugged a bit and too much oil is sitting on top of the heads.

I trick I learned from an old Air Force mechanic is toss a cup full of kerosene in the oil when warm and let it run at idle for a about 5-10 minutes. If at any point you hear the lifters start clicking, it's time to shut off the motor. Change the oil. Fill it with cheap stuff and add another cup of kerosene. Run it again at idle for 5-10 minutes or until the lifters start clicking.

Change the oil and filter and fill with your normal oil. Cured the issue in my old S-10 with the 4.3.
