More Honda Accord wheel work....cerakote?
My Accord's alloy wheels are flaking badly and one will not hold tire pressure (I may have asked about this already) anyway.....I know powder coating is an option to "restore" those but what about cerakoting?
I heard a place near Martinsburg, WV did that but has anyone tried it on wheels? (It's a popular coating for firearms). |

Hit your local junkyard and pick up a few used ones , It's an accord there must be dozens laying in a pile . it would cost more to coat the old ones than buying some good used ready to install .

My wheels haven't been made since 2002 so finding a great-looking set won't be easy and will likely involve a drive of few hundred miles since no large city is within a few hundred miles. |

Do it yourself. An air brush, compressor with pressure regulator, storage tote big enough to fit wheel, acetone to soak wheel in tub and an old electric oven.
Their website has complete instructions for free. The materials are not expensive. Just have to pay to bead blast wheels before you do your thing.

Re: More Honda Accord wheel work....cerakote?
I have a 2001 Accord I inherited when my mother passed. The clear was flaking off all four wheels and they looked rough. I used aircraft stripper to remove the rest of the clear then used a buffer with an aggressive pad and Flitz metal polish to bring back them back to life. I probably over did it a little, they're polished now, but they look great.

Wait, the finish on the wheel is keeping it from holding air? I've literally never seen that.

I didn't believe it at first either until I asked for advice on here. Turns out it's pretty common. I may take advice and rework my own wheels......I thought about "remanufactured" ones from Ebay but I'm a hoarder and running out of room! There is no way I could get rid of my old wheels. I need to do something though.....I think I'll get my wheels fixed up, run those in spring, summer, and fall, and get myself a set of steel rims and winter tires for winter. I do my own tire rotations anyway, two more rotations a year won't be a big deal. At the moment I am replacing my brake shoes.....ugh! I wish I had a lift! Back breaker..... Thanks for the suggestions guys, always great advice here. |
