Alternator question

I replaced my 1972 truck alternator with a 100 amp summit alternator and replaced the voltage regulator with a stock NAPA regulator. When there is a load placed on the alternator- lights, fan motors etc. it does not appear to be charging. Is there a way to check the output of the alternator before the regulator then after the regulator? Can this be done with a volt meter?

Thanks for any help you can give me

Re: Alternator question

You can use your volt meter to check the alternator. Reading should be in the 14-15 volt range. An easy check is to measure the voltage at the battery.
