Generic question about 10 lug wheels in railroad use

Hello.
I have a generic question about 10 lug wheels. I've noticed that almost all pickup trucks that are used by the railroads on the tracks use 10 lug wheels. Why is that? Were 67-72 chevy trucks ever used with 10 lug wheels on the railroads?
