Re: Faux Patina/Patina obs?

ive never seen one in person, im guessing they are just too new to have real patina yet. occasionally ill see ones with the clear coat peeled off and you get the classic beater matte look but thats about it

True, I've seen several white and silver trucks with peeling paint, and maybe a few small spots of baked off paint, but nothing with any real patina all over unless its faked like the above samples.

Re: Faux Patina/Patina obs?

I don't think these trucks will really get the classic patina look that the earlier trucks do with the single stage paint. The basecoat/clearcoat paint just doesn't fade in the same way. I too have seen quite a few trucks in my area where the clear is peeling and the basecoat looks flat and faded, but in my opinion it just doesn't have the same appeal as the single stage patina. With that being the case, I think there are very few fauxtina paint jobs on these because it would be so obviously faked.

Re: Faux Patina/Patina obs?

I've been seeing them for years. Peeling paint showing primer turning to surface rust is a common sight on these trucks. That's real patina.

It just depends on what part of the country you live. Here in TX, real patina trucks are running around after the 88-98 series. I've seen several faded & surface rusted 02-03's.

My 90 was original patina. Now it's faux patina up front (blended @ the doors) & real patina for the rest as a result of a collision in Nov 2015....

Re: Faux Patina/Patina obs?

I like that rusty plastic grille on the first truck in this thread. The real patina would be bubbled and peeled plating, how many ended up.

My roof top has more surface rust than peeling paint; but it has both. Top of the bedsides is just uber faded paint.

The top of my roof is completely baked off, now just surface rust. But the rest of the truck is just dulled paint, no sheen. And has some damn automotive cornwell vinyls on it from the shop it came from.

Sounds exactly like my roof. I guess it's fortunate the rust color blends in well w/the patina burgundy/dark-red.

Re: Faux Patina/Patina obs?

The rallyes with Safari center caps is a nice touch. My '95 'Burb was repainted by the sheriff's dept that owned it before me. I commented on how well the white paint had held up when I first glanced at it. No patina for me, just can read Cobb County Sheriff on the side and Sheriff on the tailgate where they pulled the vinyl...if you look close.

Re: Faux Patina/Patina obs?

finally got around to taking a picture of mine

i guess that kinda counts? the sides suck as they are still all shiny except for the rear wheel wells, cab corners, and rockers as they are pretty rusty

Re: Faux Patina/Patina obs?

My opinion only but i think an obs chevy truck looks best w a nice sleek paint job .... maybe a flat black or matte black would be an exception in my opinion . Although that pic u posted does look kinda cool .

Easy way I know of if you have to have the affect ??/ Lots of red oxide primer ( 3 to 4 coats ) 2 coats of gray primer sand to desired finish with red showing through where you want it clear coat with a dulling agent if you don't want it to weather for real ??/ A waste of money in my opinion ??/
